Joy joined the faculty at the UIC SPH in the Fall of 2011, after a long career in both non-profit and public agencies, where her work had been focused on public health policy, planning and program development. After working at a community health center on Chicago’s West Side for a year and a major academic medical center for six years, Joy spent the next two decades or so at the Chicago Department of Public Health. Over my many years at CDPH, Joy worked on just about every public health issue there is, some as they were emerging, including AIDS, infant mortality, communicable disease control, chronic disease policy, immunizations, and food protection; and issues related to access to care, such as Medicaid, Medicare, charity care, and most recently, health reform. Joy holds a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, where her emphasis was on macro-level interventions -- policy, planning, and administration.
