BIOGRAPHY

Jamie F. Chriqui, PhD, MHS, is a Professor of Health Policy and Administration (HPA) in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She directs HPA's MPH Program and is Co-Director of the Health Policy Center in UIC's Institute for Health Research and Policy. She has over 27 years’ experience conducting public health policy research, analysis, and evaluation, with a particular focus on chronic disease issues related to obesity, physical activity, food access and nutrition, tobacco control, and substance abuse. She has gained national recognition for her obesity policy research where she conducts some of the largest studies of laws and policies across states, counties and municipalities, and school districts nationwide. She is an appointed member of the federal Community Preventive Services Task Force and was a member of two Institute of Medicine Committees focused on obesity prevention. She also serves on numerous federal, non-profit, and academic advisory boards and committees focused on the role of policy and environmental factors in effectuating healthier communities. Her work is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Agriculture, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and many others. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Barnard College, Columbia University; an MHS in health policy from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health; and a PhD in policy sciences from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Impact of public health policies on communities, schools, and individual outcomes. Focus heavily on obesity policy-related issues including school-related policies, land use and urban planning, nutrition and diet, physical activity, taxation, etc.
