BIOGRAPHY

Edward Mensah is a co-founder and director of the Public Health Informatics program and an associate professor of health economics and health informatics at the health policy and administration division. He received an Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in agric. production economics and operations research from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and a PhD degree in economics from Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, Iowa. He did his post-doctoral studies at the economics department of the University of Chicago. His research interests are in the economic evaluation of healthcare technologies and information systems, and economic evaluation of health promotion programs and services. Dr. Mensah is a member of the Health Information Exchange Advisory Board of the State of Illinois, an organization set up to develop guidelines for the implementation of an integrated and interoperable health information exchange system for the state. He was also a member of the Steering Committee for Patient Centered Care Collaborative to Improve Minority Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), the American Public Health Association (APHA), and the American Economic Association (AEA). He is the founder and Editor-In-Chief of the Online Journal of Public Health Informatics (OJPHI), a peer-reviewed, PubMed indexed, Open Access journal. Dr. Mensah is currently working on the estimation of the contribution of information technology to total factor productivity growth in the healthcare industry.
